2009 Lunacy Robot
View other robots: 2007|2008|2009|2010|2011What does it do?
It tries to score by firing balls called moon rocks and empty cells into an opponents' trailer.
What does it do in autonomous?
During autonomous mode, this robot is preprogrammed to move to the safest zone in the arena, with protecting the trailer being its highest priority.
What does it do in teleoperated mode?
In the teleoperated period, this robot is designed to hold up to seven balls in a specially designed "hopper," which then feeds them into a rotating turret with manual firing control. The turret fires the cells by accelerating two wheels, which then come into contact with the cell and project it outwards. Atop the turret is a camera, which is able to track the opponent's trailers, that ensures a successful launch. The robot is able to lift cells off the floor using a conveyer belt, which then stores them in the hopper. To counteract the low coefficient of friction, our robot is pre-programmed to adjust all commands set to it by the robot controller in order to allow more accurate steering.
When did it compete?
The 2009 Lunacy Robot competed in the Chesapeake Regional Competition at the Baltimore Convention Center and the Philadelphia Regional.
